In 2017, Downing funds invested into Bartley Power Limited, a 20MW gas fired generation site near Wrexham, to facilitate the construction of the plant. The site has been operational since December 2018.
The site comprises ten 2MW Finning (Caterpillar) gas reciprocating engines that benefit from 15-year Capacity Market contracts that ensure security of supply to the UK in times of shortage. The plant is designed to be able to start up quickly (under two minutes), which enables it to provide power to the market at times of peak demand, supporting the grid in the increasing deployment of intermittent renewable energy.
The project is maintained by the Original Equipment Manufacturer with asset management provided inhouse by Downing, supported by a Technical Asset Manager.
